22 weeks...
still remember the feeling when i just got here to suzhou and now... in 12 hours, will be in singapore already.
i gonna miss this place.. and i know I and J understands why..
time for starbucks breakfast!

Took a short break.. in beijing for the past weekend till later.
the trip was supposedly on thurs then till today, but something cropped up before. so 4 become 3, and thurs became fri.
took a flight from changzhou to beijing.. small airport with 2 couters and 1 exit.. seriously.. smaller than a bus terminal. stayed at trader's hotel the night before.
reached beijing at about 12noon.. took a short rest before going to the tian'an men square. quite a nice place at night.. and we were just in time for the flag lowering ceremony. had a good dinner at 后海. basically a chill out place.. the place is filled with singers and they are quite good.. temp starts to dip after 5.. so from 13deg it goes all the way to 4deg at night. the hotel is not bad.. for about rmb800, which is about SGD160 for 3 nights. so i had my own room for 3 days, 1 queen bed with shower. free internet access.. and the thing is.. it's clean.
2nd day was to the forbidden city. a magnificent place to go to... nice architecture. get to see the power of an emperor and also how they lived. the handicrafts of china is really something everyone should see to believe.. the utter intricate details they did on jadite and gold. the whole day was practically in the forbidden city. got back to hotel and just rested while the other 2 US friends went for dinner with another colleague from US.
3rd day, was great wall and 十三陵. the latter is the tomb for emperors in the ming dynasty. we just went to the biggest tomb, which is the first emperor as usual, the buildings are very grand and magnificent. the precision of building a straight axis for 500 years ago wasnt that simple. and it's for all the buildings. next was the great wall of china. actually great wall of china wasn't anything big or nice.. it's just amazing how the built it.. we went up the highest pt, 888m above sea level. and the view as very good.. coz we can see how the wall extends out to the smaller hills beside and just keeps people wondering how they even did it.
4th day, i'm alone.. coz the US friends went back to respective cities. went for breakfast early in the morning and then went back to sleep before waking up at 11am and started packing my stuffs.. after that, went to the temple of heaven. another majestic place. 500 years old and still standing strong. the whole place is freaking big, with 60k of trees, and 35k of them are over 100 years old.. many of those trees are above 300 years old. took me 2 hours to just complete the area. it was nice though.. walking alone.. enjoying the cold breeze. it was nice also hearing many singaporeans speaking around the temple of heaven. makes me feel at home again..
after temple of heaven, went to XiDan area for starbucks and also my lunch. quite a nice place to slack... it's like 8 buidlings of shopping, 4 on each side, but there are overhead bridges connecting the 8 buildings around.. after which, walked another 2 train stations before coming back to the hotel.
food and transportation is very cheap.. one can get a decent meal for RMB10 compared to suzhou and shanghai RMB20. bus is 50cents or RMB1, for sz and sh, it's 2, 3, 4 or 5 and train, is RMB2 for any number of stops.. something for sg to learn.
another 2 more hours i'm going back to suzhou. this will be a 9 hours plus train ride. first time taking a train with bed in my life. this is a very good experience for me..

but before that jerry and i went to the jade buddha temple.. it was quite a big temple and much bigger than what we expected. jerry's first time eating RMB1 piah.. well it was quite nice though it was cheap.. :D
went back hotel room to slack a while before leaving for Pudong airport.
waited quite a while for her arrival. kept thinking if i remembered correctly or not.. but yea.. she did arrive.
took train to railway station to head to sz. I think the railway station changed her impression of shanghai as compared to the other time she came here.
got home, J slept. Irene and I went over to JJL (jin ji lake 金鸡湖). it never fails to take people's breathe away. which is why i still like this place so much.

went to 拙政园. my first garden visit in my 2 mths in suzhou.. but I guess it just wasnt our kinda thing.. so we just went to the main one and skipped the others.
walked down to 观前街 showed them the main shopping street. and of course bought some stuffs..
started raining quite heavily.. kinda dampened our mood. coz that area has heavy traffic and oct 2 was not helping at all. managed get onto a bus. when we got home, everyone was freaking drained.
managed to drag them to watch the musical fountain, but maybe bad weather, cancelled. so disappointing. we went for nice jap food instead.

everyone rested early the night before for 同里. it's some ancient town at the south west of suzhou. kinda nice place to go to.. and of course.. my fav 臭豆腐. too bad J didnt like to eat.. cheapie too!
thanks to my friends in suzhou.. they managed to bring us in for free. coz one of them was a tongli'er. another nice food there is 袜底酥.

decided we need some rest before going further.. woke up early and brought Irene to supermarket and she did her souvenier shopping there.. haha! guess she went a little overboard.. she regretted her small "luggage". slacked a while before going to 寒山寺. only J and I went though, Irene didnt want to go.. guess J enjoyed that place a lot. he loves his big rock.. and also his expensive gao lak..
decided to stay at home for drinks today, so got ourselves mixers, dvds.. quite lucky for us.. coz we just grabbed 2 dvds and both shows are not bad..

Woke up late.. haha.. so we decided to skip the big amusement park and went to the ferris wheel one.. after 2 rides, we decided to leave.. coz it has so freaking long queues..
decided to take the chance to go to the musical fountain at night.. think both of them quite liked it.. it's kinda grand and i love it when the water comes as rain after being blown by the wind..

time for shanghai.. just woke up and did some washing and cleaning of the house before packing bag for shanghai..
guess everyone was freaking tired after few days of suzhou and miles of walking.. coz of me.. haha! slept till 5 before going out for dinner.. went to 田子坊 for teddy bear thai restaurant. quite a nice ambience.. and i think coz we were sick and tired of eggplants. but still it was nice la.. walked around and saw quite a lot of interesting things to buy.. i think i will need sometime for myself to shop.
bought beer from Family Mart and went back hotel for a drink.. guess J was very eager to go clubbing.. starting playing songs before we leave for club. went to the club,. i think an hour plus we were out.. quite paiseh.. coz J wanted to stay longer.. :(

J going back.. :( sadness.. time flies.. seems like not long ago he just got to SH.. now he's back to sg.
walked around with irene... we went to the bund twice.. before and after lightings were on.
decided to catch a movie.. agin, randomly chose a movie.. and i guess both of us liked it so much.. it's about 武则天 and 狄仁杰. i was so freaking impressed with the sound system.. gosh!
after movie, both Irene and I were damn emo.. coz that's the end of holidays.. she's going back sg, i'm going back sz...
kinda surreal for me.. maybe i wasn't the one leaving shanghai and back to sg.. but anyways.. hope they enjoyed themselves as much as i did..

it's been ages...
been here since last thursday... it's actually quite a nice place here...
it's quite amazing here actually.. at first i thought there was nothing much here as compared to shanghai.. till 1 day we wanted to visit wal-mart.. there.. we found zara, bershka, uniqlo, h&m, pull & bear.. zara is quite cheap over here.. relatively cheaper than in sg..
shopping for stuffs here is quite fun.. you get to see all the cheapo stuffs... yea.. makes you think 1230983times before you buy... bought fans for SGD30.. as in stand fan... then pot and pan for RMB90, which is 16 bucks... 6 cups and a pot for RMB20..
1 thing that shocked me is actually the transit service.. bus is standard, RMB1, 2 or 3... if it's air conditioned, +1... every stop they will tell you what is nearby.. and if you sort of missed the stop just shout at the driver.. he will stop for sure.. getting around in suzhou from where i stay is generally RMB10 by cab.. it takes about 5 mins for the meter to jump to the next dollar...
Work here has been quite ok. the company is super welfare. we have buses to and fro from our place. lunch is provided... gym is also available in the office premises itself.. now that my supervisor is not around, i sorta just sit around and look for things to read and try to understand.. you will find angmohs that speak better mandarin than I do... amazing..
food is quite oily here... but the serving is horrendous.. we almost cannot finish every meal.. and it's about the same price as sg though.. maybe it's because the area I stay.. just yesterday we tried a local fastfood... craziness... 2 persons, each with a bowl of noodles, and then 6 dumplings.. only RMB23.. sometimes i wonder what they earn... but stil it's good for us..
dairy products are amazingly expensive.. which i don't know why.. yogurt seems to be the milk replacement.. it's very much cheaper.. here, a 250g of butter is SGD5... maybe it's normal price.. but i find it expensive.. lay's potato chips are SGD6 which i definitely won't buy..
1 irritating thing i hate about this place.. the sun rises at about 430am... which makes me waking up at about 445 everyday... and then back to sleep.. argh...
time to sleep humans.. night...

Now that the concert is over, I can really sit down and study (but that's if i study)... anyway am glad that JX and C came... good to have friends to support.. but it's ok if people can't turn up... hope they enjoyed the concert though.. everyone was not use to the hall at first.. but I think it got better at the back..
School... Mid terms such a drag... still have 1 more paper... irritating the hell outta me.. well.. at least now that lab is over and that i have this long weekend up ahead.. still thinking whether to go for the chalet tomorrow..
Now that Mel has started sch, the 4 of us don't really meet up that much now.. after the exams would be a nice time.. it's always semester one that i am feeling so darn overloaded with things.. probably it's the first part of the semester, with all the rehearsals, long saturdays, not staying in hall, wasted a lot of time and effort travelling to and fro... plus too much of slacking that is.. need to start studying already.. and today, i just wasted one whole day doing nothing as well.. at least a well deserved nap from 3pm to 6pm.. but still darn tired.. don't know what's up with me lately.. really sleeping a lot...
in 4 weeks time, i will be starting my first paper.. it will be math 1.. yea i failed my math one in first year first semester.. i wonder how people do that.. but yes.. i failed... so this time round gonna work hard for this paper.. but kinda sick and tired of math already.. no mood to attend all the tutorials.. those freshmen are really getting on my nerves.. when i was a freshmen i wasn't as noisy as they were.. chatting non stop...
Now that i'm gonna start all the studying time to print all my notes and also all my tutorials.. that's how far behind i am.. need to buck up! for those who are also having exams.. jia you! I gonna evaporate from the earth for about 2 mths.. tata!
P,S. Irene.. aminah already said we going for dinner.. I will go one dont worry.. this time we can ask ah lian to come out as well... :P
